Welcome to another episode of CrunchTime with D. Today, I’m dropping something from the archives. ?’? ????????? @butcherandtheryepgh “??????? ??? ??? ???,” in Pittsburgh, PA. See if this restaurant garners ?? ??????? #pictureworthy ???????! And I can guarantee that you’ll be drooling before it’s over!
Before I contact a restaurant for a formal review, I like to scope out the joint to play the role of a secret shopper. Today, I’m reviewing one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh, “Butcher and the Rye.” This restaurant is located downtown on 6th & Liberty, near the city’s famous Strip District, where great restaurants abound. The period ‘feel,’ and decor of this place is attractive and inviting. While there, I had the opportunity to taste some fantastic dishes!
As an appetizer, I had a beautiful tuna pate’ with roe and a tasty plate of crispy Brussel sprouts beyond measure. I enjoyed every morsel!
I then moved on to what they called “Dirty Pasta,” which is rigatoni, ground duck, duck liver, brandy, sage, and pecorino cheese. This dish was very filling and delicious. If you’ve ever had Foie gras, then you’d understand the richness of this plate.
After that, I dove into this absolutely scrumptious dish; roasted chicken stuffed with duxelles, which is just a fancy way of preparing mushrooms with onions, shallots, garlic, shaved Brussels, fennel, and brown butter. Often, when you order chicken at a restaurant, you might not know what to expect. You may get something that is less than anticipated in flavor. Not here, this chicken was fantastic!!
And let’s not even discuss this old fashion! Yeah man! Everything was #DLicous! The Buther and the Rye will get my #pictureworthy hashtag, not only for the food but also for fantastic service. I hope to visit this fabulous place sometime in the future safely.
Stay tuned for more announcements on my live cooking demo and the review of El Vez in Philadelphia. Until then, it’s CrunchTime with D!
